The Surge 2 is an action RPG developed by Deck13 and published by Focus Entertainment. You start in a detention center in Jericho City, earn an Exo-Rig, and cut the gear you want off enemies as you fight from Downtown Jericho to the top of The Great Wall. The city’s locations are interconnected and full of shortcuts, so the route matters as much as the fights.
Content warning: The Surge 2 is rated Mature 17+ for blood and gore, drug reference, intense violence, and strong language, with online user interaction features. This walkthrough stays non-graphic and focuses on routes, bosses, and items.
Spoiler note: This walkthrough names every boss, the major story betrayals, the late-game world change, and the final ending choice. Read one section at a time if you want to keep surprises intact.
Quick answer: The Surge 2’s campaign takes about 20 hours, and a 100% run takes roughly 25-35 hours or more. There are no numbered chapters: the story runs through 12 connected areas, from the Detention Center to The Great Wall, with 16 boss encounters from Nitro to Archangel Eli (three of them optional Delver Echoes). This walkthrough covers every area in story order, the key items that open new paths, each boss and its special severing reward, the missables you must grab before the world change at A.I.D. Command, and how to reach The Kraken Expansion.
Detention Center
Boss: Nitro, then Warden Garcia. Key unlocks: Exo-Rig, Combat Drone.
- You wake in the Medical Observation room. Look behind the curtains in front of the bed for Keycard - Medical Staff, then hold the action button at the control door to open it.
- Defeat the two JCPD Drones, heal at the First Aid Station behind the next door on your right, and go through the hole in the wall to Cell Block B.
- In Cell Block B, walk slowly behind the looting Prisoner until a red circle appears, then attack for a backstab. Drop through the hole in the floor and deal with the Prisoners below. The Heavy Prisoner with an Equalizer swings slowly, so wait for his attack and hit him during the recovery.
- At the top of the stairs you will find Benjamin Bruke in a jammed cell. You cannot open it yet, so remember where he is.
- Go right into the control room. The door control on your right opens a door next to Benjamin’s cell, giving you a quick way back to the start. The door on your left, next to a First Aid Station, leads to the JCPD Armory.
- Boss - Nitro. He is armored everywhere except his head, so lock on and target the head. His Equalizer attacks are slow but wide and long. Back away while he swings, then land a couple of hits during his recovery. You do not have your Exo-Rig yet, so you cannot dodge, run, or jump in this fight. If you die, come back through the door you opened in step 5. He drops Keycard - Officer Johnson and 100 Tech Scrap.
- Open the door Nitro came from and activate the Medbay to get your Exo-Rig. You get three module points to spend, and you can respec them, so experiment freely. From here you have the energy bar, finishing blows, and injectables.
- Outside, an Infected Prisoner with a lance is looting a body. Backstab her or target her right arm, then spend a battery on a finishing blow to take the Salvaged Gouger.
- Go back to Cell Block B, open Benjamin’s jammed door, and free him. He gives you a keycard for a locker in the JCPD Armory that holds the Empty INF-Labs Chassis weapon.
- Return to the Armory and open the jammed door to the Security Hallway. Warden Garcia blocks your path, so take the side route on the right. After clearing the side rooms, a control panel reopens the door back to the Medbay. Upgrade, then activate the hallway control panel and run up the ramp before the door closes.
- Boss - Warden Garcia (JCPD Lobby). He uses an MG Jackknife Pro, the A.I.D. Nightfall Set, and a combat drone. Wait out his three-hit combo, then strike. When his drone locks a red laser on you, hide behind a wall or run in circles. At range he jumps at you or throws Molotov cocktails; dodge to the side. Severing reward: cut off his right arm to get the MG Jackknife Pro and the A.I.D. Nightfall Arm Gear schematic. He drops his Combat Drone and 500 Tech Scrap, along with the R-1 ‘Diode’ Laspistol and S&R Drone modules.
- Approach the disturbance in the room to see a Strange Vision. Athena asks you to find the plane at Port Nixon, and a loot chest appears. Go upstairs and break boxes for Omni-Cells (drone ammo). Brother Truman asks you to kill two Prisoners on the upper level so he can turn on a magnetic lift; your drone makes this easy. Ride the lift and take the door on the right into Downtown Jericho City.
Downtown Jericho City
Boss: none. Key goals: reach the Seaside Court, start the Stranger’s questline, collect the early drone modules.
- On the rooftop, talk to Brother Truman. He asks you to go to the Seaside Court. Take the stairs and magnetic lift down to the JCPD Back Alley.
- Missable: The Stranger stands in front of the Back Alley Medbay. Talk to him until his dialogue runs out to start his questline. This is how you meet Warren later in the story. He also gives you Tungsten Alloy Mk.I to upgrade your weapon.
- Head out to Riverside Street. Up the road, a door control behind a pile of cars opens a shortcut back to the Back Alley Medbay.
- At the JCPD Main Entrance, search the dead A.I.D. officers for Keycard - JCPD Main Enterway. You do not need to go back into the prison yet, but it lets you in through the front later.
- Further up the road, an A.I.D. Melee Officer and A.I.D. Ranged Officer guard the way. They hit hard and do not respawn early in the game. Target the Ranged Officer’s head and use your drone, and break the Melee Officer’s shield with a charged attack. The door behind them leads to a small area with the Adrenal Harvester implant, but you cannot go further without a tool you get much later.
- Go back to where you fought the officers, turn right, climb the stairs, and open the door to the Canal Back Alleys. Work your way down, cross the canal on the giant pipe, and ride the magnetic lift up. The W-102 Banner drone module sits at the top of the ramp by the scaffolding. Keep going to unlock a lift shortcut back to the JCPD alley Medbay.
- Continue to All Saints BLVD. A Pyro Scavenger and a Ranged VULTR guard an open area. Missable: cut the rifle arm off a Ranged VULTR for the Klokonov R-47 Autorifle drone module now, because these enemies despawn later.
- Approach the disturbance here for another Strange Vision; a loot chest with the Metamorphing Talons appears afterward. Under the broken bridge, in a corner past a Heavy Scavenger, you will find the W-101 Spray Can drone module.
- Go down the stairs into Welders Block. Shielded VULTRs guard this route; a charged strike breaks their shield in one hit. Search the building at the intersection for a loot chest with the Cellular Regenerator implant.
- Cross the bridge guarded by a Shielded VULTR to reach the Seaside Court.
- Achievement setup: there is an A.I.D. security checkpoint to the left of the Seaside Court entrance. Do not walk through its blue gate. You will sneak in and disable it later.
Seaside Court
Boss: none. This is a safe hub with merchants, quest givers, and a Medbay.
The building has three floors:
| Floor | What is there |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Medbay, Jordan Black the monster hunter, Molly Fox (merchant, quest A Simple Favor), and the Port Nixon exit guarded by Mr. Loco |
| Level 2 | Brother Eli (quest The Drug Lord), Rex (merchant; pick up the Plastic Rose behind him and talk to him for April’s Fool) |
| Level 3 | Mr. Scrappy (quest Hearing Aid) and a door back to the Downtown Jericho rooftops |
- Activate the Medbay on Level 1.
- Talk to Brother Eli on Level 2. He gives you The Drug Lord and The Prophet’s Keycard, which opens the Port Nixon door.
- Buy early: Rex sells the CREO Industrial Magnet drone module for 10,000 Tech Scrap. You can lose Rex as a vendor, so pick it up as soon as you can afford it. Once you hold 10 or more audio logs, Mr. Scrappy on Level 3 gives you a free 4,000 scrap, and he keeps paying for audio logs you turn in later.
- Leave through the door at the rear of Level 1 to enter Port Nixon.
Port Nixon
Bosses: Little Johnny, Brother Eli. Key unlock: EMP-44 ‘Starfish’.
- Follow the Seaside Court Supply Route. Clear the Electro Drones first, then backstab the SPARK Engineer. Take the stairs and bridge to the Blue Sparkle Compound Medbay; activating it starts a short conversation with Little Johnny.
- Go through the Residential Rooftops. In the tunnel, Mortimer Gideon the Third tells you about Terminal Z. Drop to the street and head into the Residential Back Alleys.
- Penny’s Delicatessen: open the jammed door by the stairs to meet Penny, a merchant who starts Delicatessen and asks for Spare Parts. Climb the stairs outside, disarm the Automated Turret by holding the interact button, then drop down and destroy the Electro Drones to get the Spare Parts.
- Bring the parts back. When you step into the “reward” room, a giant grinder starts moving toward you. Run the other way, break the box, and jump out of the building. Go back in and fight Penny. Cut her arms for the KLINGE Velo-Saw Ultra and Codename: Moonlight. Her key opens a side room where Jennifer gives you Jenny’s Keycard (it powers a lift back to the Medbay) and you find Prime Meat, which a Cloud 9 Bar quest needs later.
- Continue to Paper Street. A control door here opens the Paper Storage room, whose magnetic lift leads to the Iron Comic Store. Up a side staircase you meet Finn for A Simple Favor: pay Molly Fox’s 2,000 Tech Scrap debt or kill him.
- Go down to the Flooded Grounds and approach the disturbance for a Strange Vision. A loot chest with the Vibrating Quickscythe appears. Clear the area and open the door control that leads back to Paper Storage and the Medbay lift.
- P.A.X. puzzle: go through the small tunnel and ride the magnetic lift up to the Ship Graveyard. Break the boxes on the left, kill the SPARK Engineer, then use the container control to release three Electro Drones. Use the other control to activate them and shut down the P.A.X. unit.
- Head back, go right from where the P.A.X. unit stood, and fight up the ramp. Loot chests here hold the Deflection Energy Converter and Omni-Health Observer implants. Use the computer to lower the bridge to Terminal Z.
- In Terminal Z, hold the action button upstairs to overhear Little Johnny and Matriarch Celeste. In the next room, a loot chest holds the Antidote Injection implant. Break the boxes left of it, kill the Explosive Drone behind them, and open the control panel for a shortcut to the Medbay. Upgrade your gear now, then return to the loot-chest room and drop down.
- Boss - Little Johnny. He pilots a giant spider-like machine. Your goal is to destroy five cooling tanks: two on the cockpit and one on each leg. Stay near him but not directly underneath, because standing under the cockpit baits a stomp. He throws electric mines that slow you, and he rears up to spray poison but cannot turn while doing it, so hit his legs then. One reliable pattern is to wait for the overhead stomp, dash in for two or three hits, and work through the two body tanks before the legs. Broken legs leak venom, so step away from them. He is weak to nano damage, and the Antidote Injection helps with poison. Severing reward: cut off both claws for Little Johnny’s Forceps V2.0.
- Little Johnny drops the EMP-44 ‘Starfish’ drone module, which opens sealed magnetic doors and locks, plus 5,000 Tech Scrap. Use it right away on the three containers in the arena and the doors along the route back. The room just before the boss fight holds the audio log April’s Fate for Rex’s quest, and a sealed room on the way back to the Seaside Court has the Tissue Hardening Injection implant.
- Boss - Brother Eli. Past the Medbay, near the comic store, Eli is waiting and turns on you. Wait for his combos to end, then punish. When his health drops, he calls in two Twin-Rigged SPARK Aspirants; kill them first, using your drone on their unarmored parts. Severing reward: cut his right arm for the Warhammer of Forced Conversion. Another Strange Vision appears in the arena afterward, with the Decharge Regenerator implant.
- Back in the Seaside Court, talk to Declan, turn in April’s Fool to Rex and A Simple Favor to Molly Fox, and talk to Jordan Black, who is heading to Gideon’s Rock to hunt the monster.
Downtown Jericho Return and Cloud 9 Bar
Boss: none. Key goals: snipers, the checkpoint achievement, and the Cloud 9 Bar hub.
- Take the Level 3 door next to Mr. Scrappy back into Downtown Jericho. Directly across the way is the first of five sniper turret positions. Use your drone on it, and make sure you kill the human enemy too.
- Checkpoint stealth: leave the Seaside Court through the bottom floor and return to the A.I.D. checkpoint street. Take the small back alley directly left of the security gate, climb to the top, and drop into the checkpoint without triggering the alarm. In the small dark section, use the Starfish on the gate to disable it. Cut the right arm off an A.I.D. rifle soldier here for the A.I.D. ‘Empire’ Sniper Rifle drone module.
- Opposite the checkpoint, ride the magnetic lift next to the staircase and drop into Central Plaza for another Strange Vision.
- Sniper two: from Central Plaza, turn right into the A.I.D. checkpoint and take the staircase behind the breakable boxes to the Eastside Underpass. Sniper three: at Gideon Plaza, break through the boxes, go up the stairs on the left, ride the magnetic lift, and Starfish the door ahead.
- Enter the Cloud 9 Bar inside the Babylon Gardens Hotel. The Medbay is on the left.
- Talk to everyone:
- Yoko Kadenokouji wants a Sparkletini from Highball first, then starts Carnal Pleasures. Hand her the Prime Meat from Port Nixon for five Large Piles of Metal Scrap.
- Dan Kadenokouji gives Fool’s Errand.
- DJ Talla answers to the password “Keymaker” and gives Tag Attack.
- Highball is the bartender merchant and gives Golden Opportunity.
- H.A.R.O.L.D. gives The Grand Prize.
- Kyle Baxter has no quest yet but matters later.
- Leave for Gideon’s Rock through the door next to H.A.R.O.L.D.
Gideon’s Rock
Bosses: Captain Cervantes, Delver. Key item: Nano Brain.
- In Cloud Canyon you meet the Hunters. They can cloak, and killing one while it is cloaked earns an achievement.
- At the Gideon’s Rock Overlook hub, activate the Medbay. Hawke offers to help capture the creature for half the reward and gives you The Three Towers. Roach gives The Puppet Master.
- Go down to Central Crossing. Shielded GAIA statues keep fighting even after you cut off a weapon arm. Two optional statue tricks: cut off the right arm, pick up its spear, and kill that same statue with the spear for an achievement; cut off a statue’s head for the GAIA Laser drone module.
- Central Crossing splits into three trails. Your job is to switch on a repeller at the end of each one.
- Cougar Trail: climb to the CREO Institute of Technology for a Strange Vision and meet GardenCraft VT-16, who asks for Lost Seeds. Follow the Cougar Trail up to the CREO Art Foundation Gallery, grab the Hunter’s Keycard in the gallery, and activate the repeller controls at the top.
- Mustang Hills: a magnetic lift leads down to a room where GAIA statues are made. Explore it first, then hit the switch to lower the Shielded GAIA out of your path. At the Mustang Hills Repeller Area, mines electrify you if you step on them. Use the computer on the ramp by the fallen tree to power the lift, ride up, and activate the repeller. An extendable bridge nearby links to the Boar Wilds.
- Boar Wilds: head down into the Metea Forest, watching for cloaked Hunters in the bushes and Nanite Warpers in the trees. Follow the boar signs up to the Boar Wilds Repeller Area.
- Boss - Captain Cervantes. The arena is small, so stay close. He cloaks, then reappears with an attack. Any hit, including a drone shot, breaks the cloak, and breaking the attachment on his chest armor stops him from cloaking at all. His long katana lunge from the right is the hardest attack to parry, so dodge left instead. His shotgun follow-up cannot be parried, and he throws mines. He is weak to fire. Missable: cut off his left leg for the JAG-1000 ‘Carnivore’ Shotgun drone module; this is the only chance in a playthrough. Cutting his arm gives the JAG-22 ‘Aeterna’ instead. He drops 6,000 Tech Scrap.
- Climb the stairs and activate the last repeller. Cross the extendable bridge and open the jammed door to loop back toward the CREO Institute.
- Before the boss, tie up loose ends: tell Roach the truth to finish The Puppet Master, and plant five Lost Seeds for GardenCraft VT-16 to earn the SERU Biomaster. Hawke tells you the beast has fallen into the trap.
- Boss - Delver. Drop into the hole at Central Crossing. The fight has three phases with no break between them, and dying restarts it from phase one. It is weak to poison.
- Phase 1: a two-legged beast with a three-hit claw combo from either side. Parry the first hit and the other two get easier. It burrows, pops up twice for single attacks, then leaps at you on the third. Dodge, then punish.
- Phase 2: a four-legged charger with a two-hit combo followed by a leaping bite. It turns into nanites on the ceiling, fires two volleys, then dives at you. Dodge the dive for a stagger, and destroy the leftover nanites on the floor or it heals from them. Your drone does good damage from a distance here.
- Phase 3: slow and armored, it slams trails of nanites across the floor and slides at you. Stay on the far side, dodge the slide, then charge-attack a limb and back off.
- Severing reward: break the armor on each leg and arm at least once before the kill for the Helix of the Delver V2.0. The front legs can be broken in phase 2.
- Delver drops 20,000 Tech Scrap, the Helix of the Delver, and the Nano Brain. A Strange Vision appears at the exit of the arena.
CREO Institute and Gateway Bravo
Boss: none. Key item: Guttenberg’s Keycard.
- Go into the CREO Institute of Technology and talk to H.A.R.O.L.D. Take the door at the end of the lobby to an elevator down to the laboratory.
- Give the Nano Brain to Jonah Guttenberg. He hands you Guttenberg’s Keycard.
- Return to the Cloud 9 Bar and talk to Kyle Baxter until his dialogue runs out, then head into Downtown Jericho.
- Go back to the Eastside Underpass and follow it through to the other side of the A.I.D. checkpoint. Take the magnetic lift in the tent up to another checkpoint; the lift at the top left leads to Gateway Bravo.
- Gateway Bravo is a small hub with a Medbay on the right. Dr. Sorensson is a merchant who gives the timed quest Time is of the Essence. Benjamin Bruke is here too, and talking to him finishes his quest, Behind Bars. You can also join the protester in the middle for a Protest Sign.
- Use the door next to Forrester to enter A.I.D. Command.
A.I.D. Command
Boss: Major General Ezra Shields. Key item: Force Hook. Point of no return at the end of this area.
-
Open the hatch at the end of the corridor and drop into the Restricted Sector. Continue to Oaktree Apartments and take the magnetic lift up to the Medbay.
-
Instead of taking the lift ahead of you after leaving the apartments, go left through the next destroyed building to the A.I.D. Family Care Center. A chest in the building on the right holds the Nano Ward Arm Gear schematic.
-
Push through the A.I.D. Entry Control Gateway. A chest behind two jammed doors holds the Nano Ward Leg Gear schematic, and destroying the magnetic lock on top of it disables the scanner gate.
-
Timed item: in the small lab at the Family Waiting Area, break the box to find RadiCure-40 Medication for Dr. Sorensson. Take it back to Gateway Bravo quickly, because her quest is on a timer.
-
Go up the left side of the Family Waiting Area and drop into the Liang Wei Hospital basement. Just ahead, break Warren out of his cell and talk to him if you started the Stranger’s questline.
-
In the hospital, kill the A.I.D. Melee Officer for the A.I.D. Keycard, then ride the magnetic lift to the Overlook. Destroy the magnetic lock to open a hatch, work your way up, and take the A.I.D. Command Keycard from a scientist.
-
Open the chest to the right to get the Force Hook. It lets you ride Exo-Lines (ziplines). Nearby, Warren waits by the General’s Room; talking to him gives you the Firebug Throttle punching gloves.
-
Use the Exo-Lines and magnetic lifts to reach Central A.I.D. Command. Go up the ramp, defeat two Ranged Eclipse A.I.D. Officers, and break the magnetic lock.
-
Point of no return. You reach a door guarded by two soldiers with a note that calls it a major turning point. Beating the boss behind it changes the whole world, locks some side quests, and cuts off some locations. Before you go through, make sure you have everything you want:
- The Strange Visions from every area so far
- The drone modules above, including the Klokonov R-47, W-101, W-102, CREO Industrial Magnet, A.I.D. ‘Empire’, EMP-44 ‘Starfish’, GAIA Laser, and JAG-1000 ‘Carnivore’
- The first three snipers
- Any side quests and gear you care about
Anything you miss here waits for New Game Plus.
-
Go through, extend the bridge, and pass one more Strange Vision. Open the door on the right.
-
Boss - Major General Ezra Shields. Treat this as one of the hardest fights in the game.
- Phase 1 (Metal Armor): Ezra pilots a slow two-legged mech with a minigun, a flamethrower, a burning laser, and rockets. Circle close; he cannot kick you from behind. Jump back when the guns point down, run circles during flame sweeps, and hide behind cover when the minigun fires. Break the mech’s armor to open weak spots.
- Phase 2: Ezra jumps out and fights you with punching gloves while the mech keeps firing beams and flames. Dodge his attacks and punish.
- Severing rewards: in phase 2, destroy the mech’s flamethrower arm before killing Ezra for the VULC-88 ‘Panthera’ Rotary Gun drone module. Cutting one of Ezra’s arms gives General’s A.C.U. V2.0.
-
Ezra drops 20,000 Tech Scrap and the General’s A.C.U. A cutscene sends you down into the Underground.
The Underground
Bosses: Delver Echo Alpha and Delver Echo Beta (optional), Brother Eli Revived. From here on the world has changed, and several routes are corrupted.
- Walk to the Medbay, then open the jammed door to the Drainage Hall. Watch for Lynx Infected coming out of the water.
- Behind a jammed door nearby, Professor Okunjo Saint-Croix gives you the quest Below Jericho.
- Take the magnetic lift down, cut right past the group of enemies into the Gideon Plaza Basements, and follow the path to an Exo-Line.
- Optional boss - Delver Echo Alpha. At the bottom, a large room has a chest covered in nanocrystals in the middle, next to a big round door marked CIT. Approaching the chest starts the fight. It uses Delver’s phase 2 moves, so dodge the dive and destroy the nanites. It drops 10,000 Tech Scrap and the Energetic Speed Intensifier.
- Optional boss - Delver Echo Beta. Head through the CIT tunnel, rest at the Medbay just ahead, then go back to the same room. The chest is back, and it starts a second fight using Delver’s phase 1 moves. You can also leave this one for later.
- Continue through the C.I.T. Basements into the CREO Institute of Technology.
- Boss - Brother Eli Revived. Eli returns inside the institute with the same basic patterns as before plus nanite attacks, and a Twin-Rigged SPARK Aspirant fights beside him. Kill the Aspirant first, then focus on directional blocks and dodge the nanite waves. He drops 8,000 Tech Scrap and the Critical Oxygenator.
- Achievement tip: landing the final blow on any Delver Echo with the Helix of the Delver V2.0 counts for an achievement. You do not need to use it for the whole fight.
Downtown Jericho Revisited
Boss: Delver Echo Gamma (optional). Key goal: start the Iron Maus quest and reach the Cathedral.
- Return to the Cloud 9 Bar and tell Kyle Baxter you want to team up. This starts the Iron Maus quest.
- Optional boss - Delver Echo Gamma waits in the middle of Central Plaza in Downtown Jericho. It fights like Delver’s phase 3: run a wide circle, dodge the slide to the side, then charge-attack before it gets up. Parrying its swings stuns it for big counter damage, and your drone can break its armor. It drops 20,000 Tech Scrap and the Deflection Hardener.
- Optional detours: in the Corrupted Back Alleys past the A.I.D. checkpoint, you can jump into a giant hole by the garbage truck without dying for an achievement. After the world change, walking back into the Detention Center also unlocks one.
- To reach the Cathedral, go through the wall Gamma broke, back through Welders Block to the Seaside Court, and out the back door into Port Nixon. Hand in any audio logs to Mr. Scrappy on the way.
- In Port Nixon, get to the Medbay past the comic store, take the left door and magnetic lift down to the water, follow the path left, and climb the highway to the Cathedral of the Spark. You can also ride an Exo-Line up to the bridge from the Ship Graveyard.
Cathedral of the Spark
Boss: Matriarch Celeste. Puzzle: drain the flooded reactor levels.
- Enter and ride the Exo-Line up to the Outdoor Roofs. Drop in on the two SPARK Aspirants to find a Medbay room. Almost every path in the Cathedral leads back here.
- Water puzzle: the Cathedral is flooded in levels. Go out the door on the right side of the Medbay and use the computer on the Outdoor Roofs to lower the water and open the door to the reactor chamber, then activate the pump at the end of the Oratorium to drop the next level. Keep draining pumps as you find them, including the one in the Hall of Prayers.
- In the Oratorium, activate the hologram, then find Brother Kwizman behind a door control for Challenge of the Spark.
- Iron Maus quest, part 1 (missable): after draining the second level, go out the Medbay’s right door and up to the room where Kyle Baxter waits. Ask about your team-up and send him out to take on an enemy. Do not send him home yet, or you lose the full set.
- Take the Exo-Line toward Ritual Cleansing, jump across the electrified pool, and cut off the right arm of the Spark Galvanizer for the SPARK ‘Enlightener’ Electro-Beam drone module.
- In the Hall of Prayers, Baxter calls to say he is back at base. Iron Maus quest, part 2: go back to his room and this time send him home. Sending him out again gets him killed. He then waits for you at the Iron Comic Store in Port Nixon, where he gives you the Iron Maus set and weapon.
- Keep going down. Use the computer to turn off the TV that the SPARK crowd is watching so they scatter, then fight through to the Reactor Chamber. Break the magnetic seals you pass to open Exo-Line and lift shortcuts back to the Medbay.
- At the Main Gate, defeat the Heavy Chrysalis pair and break the magnetic lock to open the main door back to the highway.
- Follow the Exo-Line trail downward. Where a hole in the wall opens above your earlier path, take the grated elevator down to the Inner Sanctum.
- Boss - Matriarch Celeste.
- Phase 1: keep some distance and wait for her charge. Parry the charge, then parry the overhead that almost always follows to stagger her. Her broomstick dash also leaves her open.
- Phase 2: it opens with a two-burst electric pulse that is easiest to block. The floor electrifies along the sides and in a cross, so stay inside one quarter or near the center. Do not stand behind her, where her mechanical arms hit hard. Parry stuns leave her standing still for several seconds. A drone shot to her head can also stagger her.
- She is immune to electricity buildup.
- Severing reward: destroy both mechanical arms on her back with finishing blows for the Icon of the Spark V2.0.
- Celeste drops 25,000 Tech Scrap and the Icon of the Spark. Take the magnetic lift down into the Underground.
CREO Institute: PROTEUS and H.A.R.O.L.D.
Bosses: PROTEUS Ambush, H.A.R.O.L.D. Key item: the barrier-breaking upgrade.
- Follow the linear Underground path back to the CIT basement, take the stairs down into the CREO Institute, and drop into the hangar. Board the cargo ship that opens and use the Medbay inside.
- Boss - PROTEUS Ambush. Four PROTEUS robots jump you when you open the door ahead. Damage one, run off, and repeat until only two remain, then fight normally. The Starfish shuts them down briefly. Finishing blows on each unit’s parts earn PROTEUS set pieces and Codename: Parsifal.
- Grab the barrier-breaking key item, which lets you destroy nanite walls, then take the elevator up.
- Boss - H.A.R.O.L.D. He moves like the A.I.D. Hound. Stay close and he mostly uses an overhead tail strike and a swing, and both are easy to parry. When you hear his leap cue, dodge to the side. When he charges his tail with electricity, jump back and punish after the slam. Keep blocking through his spinning attack, and sidestep the small electric hounds he summons. Severing reward: a finishing blow on his tail earns H.A.R.O.L.D.’s Holographic Tailblade and limits his moves. He drops 10,000 Tech Scrap and the Tactile Amplifier.
- Optional last Strange Vision: break the barrier leading out, take the right staircase back to the Underground, ride the zipline behind the barrier near the Delver Echo room, and follow the path to The Dark Birthplace. The vision is behind a breakable wall on the left.
Corrupted A.I.D. Command: Goddess Helena
Boss: Goddess Helena.
- Leave the institute into Gideon’s Rock and go through the Cloud 9 Bar into Downtown Jericho.
- Push forward past another Echo left behind by Eli, head left to Gateway Bravo, and break the nanite barrier at the end to get back into A.I.D. Command.
- Follow the corrupted path until you reach a staircase leading into a building. Helena bursts through the door.
- Boss - Goddess Helena.
- Shielded phase: she fights like a Shielded GAIA statue. Break the shield with a vertical charged attack for a two- to three-hit stun window. She is also open while firing her head beam, which sets you on fire, so circle behind her during it.
- Unshielded phase: she adds more combos, spins, kicks, and an electric throw. Stay close, directional block her overhead fist and kick, and circle during the beam. Her shield eventually comes back, and the cycle repeats.
- She has a lot of health, so parry stuns and their counter damage do much of the work.
- Helena drops 12,500 Tech Scrap; cutting her arm gives the Twinlance of Corruption.
The Great Wall and Archangel Eli
Boss: Archangel Eli. This is the final area.
-
Enter the building past Helena’s arena to reach The Great Wall. Rest at the Medbay after the short scene, then ride the Exo-Line across.
-
Climb the structure using the magnetic lifts. Ranged Cerberus A.I.D. Officers can knock you off the bridges, so drone them from a distance.
-
Use the Starfish to power an Exo-Line over to the building held up by the giant nano snake. This is a shortcut back to a Medbay. Just past it, four soldiers are fighting a mutated creature; let them wear each other down, then clean up.
-
After a Starfish-powered magnetic lift, a cutscene introduces the Technogenesis, an enemy that splits in two. Farming tip: in a first playthrough, this is the only enemy with Mk. X parts, which you need to fully upgrade gear for two achievements. One stands right above the A.I.D. Last Stand Medbay, which makes farming it quick.
-
At the Last Stand, activate the Medbay and climb on. An NPC there asks you to kill him; doing so gives a Large Pile of Metal Scrap. Continue to The Peak, watch the scene, and pick up the quest A New Dawn.
-
Both endings: the ending choice comes right after this fight. To see both without a second playthrough, back up your save before riding the final Exo-Line.
-
Final boss - Archangel Eli. Up close he uses fast flurries; at range he uses a flying overhead attack and a long dash. He can throw his sword, fire corruption crystals that home in or pin you in place, and slam the ground to raise a wall of rocks. Two approaches work:
- Keep distance: at range he mostly uses the flying overhead and the dash, which are the easiest attacks to punish.
- Stay glued to him: backing off only for his ground shockwave and rushing straight back in keeps him from using his spinning sword throw and its follow-up grab. This takes aggressive, precise dodging.
Target his head throughout to break his helmet for extra damage, and keep injectables stocked. Severing reward: break every piece of his armor for the Greatblade of the Archangel V2.0.
-
Eli drops 50,000 Tech Scrap and the Greatblade of the Archangel. Then choose:
- Spare him for the Archangel’s Set and the Reborn achievement.
- Kill him for the Dark Prophecy Set and the Hello Darkness My Old Friend achievement.
Whichever you skip needs a restored backup or New Game Plus. Starting New Game Plus and finishing the plane-crash intro unlocks one more achievement.
The Kraken Expansion (Optional DLC)
The Kraken Expansion adds a new area, the VBS Krakow, if you own it.
- It opens after you defeat Ezra and trigger the world change. When you reach the Cloud 9 Bar again, H.A.R.O.L.D. messages you about a former CREO engineer who washed ashore in Port Nixon.
- In Port Nixon, go down past Paper Street to the Flooded Grounds. The boat is on the shore to the left, where you found the Vibrating Quickscythe. Use its controls to sail to the ship.
- On the ship, a mechanical bird briefly disables your drone with an EMP. Ride the line aboard and talk to Norm Turner at the Medbay for the quests Find the Tower and Breaking The Norm, plus his garage key.
- The ship’s AI, CAIN, sweeps the area with a red laser. If it catches you, every pirate nearby attacks and Poison Spitters appear.
- The expansion’s bosses are the Collective Incinerator and CAIN. The Drive-In survival section is one of the best ways to earn a large amount of Tech Scrap.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Walking through the blue A.I.D. gate by the Seaside Court - it sets off the alarm. Sneak in from the alley later and disable it with the Starfish.
- Skipping the Stranger’s dialogue at the first Downtown Medbay - his questline is how you find Warren later.
- Leaving the Ranged VULTRs for later - they despawn, and one of them carries the Klokonov R-47 drone module.
- Killing Captain Cervantes without cutting his left leg - the JAG-1000 ‘Carnivore’ drone module is only available in that fight.
- Opening Ezra’s door before finishing your checklist - the world change locks some side quests and areas until New Game Plus.
- Sitting on the RadiCure-40 - Dr. Sorensson’s quest is timed, so deliver it straight away.
- Sending Kyle Baxter home at the first meeting, or out again after his call - either choice costs you the full Iron Maus set.
- Ignoring Delver’s leftover nanites - destroy them after each dive or the boss heals.
- Standing under Little Johnny’s cockpit - it baits the stomp; stay near his legs instead.
- Standing behind Matriarch Celeste in phase 2 - her mechanical arms punish you there.
- Finishing Archangel Eli without a backup save - you get one ending per run unless you restore a backup.
